The rulings in FLN terrorism trial involving Paul Rusesabagina, Callixte Nsabimana and 19 others have been rescheduled from Friday to a later date.
The High Court Chamber for International and Cross-Border Crimes informs the general public that the judgment in the case of Paul Rusesabagina and his co-accused has been rescheduled and a new date will be communicated to all parties on Friday, August 20, 2021, the Supreme Court tweeted Wednesday.
Harisson Mutabazi, the spokesperson for the Judiciary, said the delays were due to the sheer volume of the case.
According to the law, a verdict must be delivered within 30 days after submissions from all parties but the court can ask for more time if deemed necessary.
Rusesabagina is the founding head of the MRCD-FLN coalition that launched fatal attacks on Rwanda in 2018 and 2019, in which at least nine people lost their lives.
Many others sustained injuries while the attackers also looted and destroyed property.
Prosecution sought varying sentences for the accused, with the maximum being a life sentence for Rusesabagina.
Victims of the FLN attacks are also seeking more than Rwf1.6 billion in compensation.
The hearing lasted four months.
