Professor Aimable Twagilimana received his PhD in English (American Literature and Critical Theory) from the State University of New York at Buffalo and joined the English Department at SUNY Buffalo State in September 1995. He also has degrees from the National University of Rwanda (1984 & 1986), the University of Reading (United Kingdom) (MA Applied Linguistics) (1989), and more recently (2014) School of Management at the University of Buffalo (MBA). His teaching and research interests are in American literature and critical theory, world literature (with focus on African Diaspora literatures), postcolonial literature and theory, genocide studies, ethnic studies (covering Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo), and literatures of Continental Europe (focusing on France, Italy, and Germany), as well as international business, accounting, finance, management, and leadership. He was the 2008-2009 Chair of the Association of African Studies Programs. He directed the African and African American Studies Interdisciplinary Unit at SUNY Buffalo State from May 2006 to December 2012. He has received awards and scholarships from the Fulbright program (4 times), the British Council, and the National Endowment for the Humanities (3 times), among others. He has published several books and numerous encyclopedia entries and chapters in books on American literature, the genocide against the Tutsi, and business administration.
